How to Create AI Presentations in Minutes with Gamma 5
A Step by Step Guide for Teachers
By Prof. Julio César Passos
Spending an evening building slides is one of those tasks that eats into a teacher’s time. You already have the lesson idea. Now you still need to organize the content, design the slides, and find the right images.
The good news is that Gamma 5 can take you from a rough idea to an AI-generated presentation in just a few minutes.
In this tutorial, based on my latest video, I walk you through the entire process, from your first prompt to exporting the presentation to PowerPoint.

Why AI Presentations Can Make a Difference in a Teacher’s Day
Creating a presentation means researching, organizing ideas, choosing a layout, and finding images. All of that can happen before you get to focus on the lesson itself.
Gamma is an AI tool for creating presentations, documents, and carousels. The platform announced version 5 as its biggest update ever.
For teachers, the practical benefit is less time at the computer and more time planning how to help students learn.
What Is New in Gamma 5
- A more powerful AI agent: brainstorm, research, create, and edit with a single agent through a conversation.
- Importing that works: bring in PDF and PowerPoint designs to edit yourself or ask Gamma to redesign.
- Connections to other tools: import data, text, transcripts, and files from apps such as Slack, Notion, and HubSpot.
- More ways to customize your work: custom instructions, freeform editing, high-fidelity exports, custom fonts, private folders, a media library, and improved brand controls.
Prefer the earlier workflow? Gamma Classic remains available through the option to use the classic generator.
How to Create an AI Presentation in Gamma 5
In the video, I created a five-slide presentation about AI for teachers and its benefits. You can follow the same process for any subject or topic.
Step 1 Open Gamma and Explore the Home Screen
Go to https://gamma.app. The first time you open Gamma 5, a short tour introduces the new features. You can go through it or skip it.
The home screen invites you to start even with half an idea and asks what you would like to create. Below that, you will find shortcuts for:
- Presentation, Document, Carousel, and Image: choose the type of content you want to create.
- Improve and Import: refine existing material or bring it into Gamma.
The sidebar contains your recent chats, recent “gammas,” and folders. Everything you create is saved automatically. To find something quickly, use Ctrl+K.
Gamma 5 home screen: enter your idea, even if you have not fully worked it out yet.
Step 2 Type Your Idea into the Creation Field
Describe what you need in simple terms. You do not need a perfect prompt. In the video, I used:
A presentation about AI for teachers and its benefits.
Then click the send arrow. Gamma opens a conversation with the AI agent.
Step 3 Answer the Agent’s Questions
Before generating the presentation, the agent opens a short setup form to clarify your focus. It asks three questions:
- Who is the audience? In my example, teachers.
- What should the presentation emphasize? In my example, the benefits of AI tools.
- How long should the presentation be? Options include an eight-slide overview. In the video, I chose five slides.
Once you have answered, select the option to create the outline. The agent uses your audience, emphasis, and slide count to build the plan.
Step 4 Review the Outline
The outline is your slide-by-slide plan, with a title and key points for each slide. This is the best time to make changes, before Gamma generates the design.
Want to adjust something? Ask in the chat. Here is the outline Gamma created in my example:
| Slide | Title | Key points |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | AI in the classroom gives you more time to teach | Opening idea: saving teachers time. |
| 2 | AI takes repetitive work off your plate | Lesson plans and outlines in minutes; drafts of tests, practice sets, and activities; support with grading and feedback comments. |
| 3 | Every student learns at their own pace | Activities adapted to different levels; alternative explanations; personalized reinforcement. |
| 4 | More creative and engaging lessons | Ideas for projects, games, and classroom activities; everyday examples and analogies; images, text, and visual materials. |
| 5 | The teacher stays at the center | AI suggests; the teacher decides and reviews. More time to connect with students. First step: try AI for one task this week. |
The outline lets you review each slide’s plan before generating the presentation.
Step 5 Choose a Design and Generate Your Slides
Once you approve the plan, Gamma suggests design templates. You can accept its suggestion or explore other options.
Click Generate. Gamma writes the slides and creates the images while showing its progress, such as “0/5” slides.
In my example, it produced a green chalkboard-style design with AI-generated illustrations that matched the topic. The finished slides were ready to view in presentation mode.
Step 6 Edit and Refine the Result
After generation, you control the details. The editing tools appear in the top toolbar, including formatting, blocks, and layout options.
- Add a block: insert text, images, diagrams, charts, or tables into any card. The layout adjusts automatically.
- Agent: request changes through the conversation, such as a more technical tone, a different slide order, or an additional slide with examples of tools.
- Freeform editing: make changes freely and shape the slide to suit your needs.
Step 7 Present or Export
Click Present to display your slides full screen. To share your work, use Share. From there, you can:
- Copy a sharing link to send to your class or school leadership team.
- Export to PDF, PowerPoint, or Google Slides.
- Choose the export quality: Basic for a smaller file, Standard for the recommended option, or Detailed for higher quality and a larger file.
The export options bring PDF, PowerPoint, and Google Slides together in one place.
Gamma 5 Features and Ways to Use Them at School
Keep this table handy the next time you plan a lesson.
| Feature | What it does | Classroom or school use |
|---|---|---|
| AI agent | Chats, researches, creates, and edits through a single agent. | Turn a rough lesson idea into a complete presentation. |
| Setup form | Asks about the audience, emphasis, and presentation length. | Adapt the same topic for colleagues, families, or students. |
| Outline | Shows the slide plan before generation. | Review the teaching sequence before working on the design. |
| PDF and PowerPoint import | Brings in older materials and lets you redesign them. | Refresh slides you already use. |
| Tool connections | Imports content from Slack, Notion, HubSpot, and other apps. | Reuse text and files you already have. |
| Add a block | Inserts text, images, charts, diagrams, or tables. | Add a chart or activity in the middle of a lesson. |
| Export | Creates PDF, PowerPoint, or Google Slides output. | Use the presentation on school computers or share the file. |
| Gamma Classic | Provides the earlier version of the generator. | Keep using the previous workflow if you prefer it. |
Prompts for Better AI Presentations
The more context you provide, the better the presentation can fit your students. Here are three prompts you can adapt.
The Simple Prompt from the Video
A presentation about AI for teachers and its benefits.
A Prompt with Grade Level and Curriculum Context
Create a six-slide presentation for seventh grade on [topic], aligned with the BNCC, using simple language, everyday examples, and a final activity.
BNCC refers to Brazil’s national curriculum framework, the Base Nacional Comum Curricular. If you teach elsewhere, adapt that reference to the curriculum you use.
A Prompt for Reusing Your Own Content
Turn this text into a five-slide presentation with concise bullet points and a reflection question on the final slide.
Three quick tips:
- Specify the audience: students, colleagues, or families.
- Include the grade level when relevant.
- Define the length and tone: simpler, more technical, or more playful.
- Always review the result. AI suggests; the teacher decides.
